Cadel Evans has tied the knot withhis long-term partner Stefania Zandonella in a lavish destination wedding.

The former world cycling champion and his beautiful bride Stefania confirmed the news of their union in a romantic post shared to Instagram on Wednesday.

The couple exchanged vows on June 1 in a secret beachside ceremony in Mauritius and surprised fans with news of their wedding nearly three weeks on.

Cadel, who is highly regarded as one of Australia's greatest ever athletes, packed on the PDA with his bride as they shared a kiss while standing on a seaside platform.

Italian skier Stefania looked every inch the blushing bride in a gorgeous white strapped gown embellished with lace detailing and featuring a backless design.

Her train cascaded down over the platform while she fixed a train in her curled brunette locks to complete her gorgeous bridal look.

Cadel cut a suave figure in a light blue suit and a white shirt and went barefoot as he kissed Stefania after exchanging vows in the picturesque location.

Alongside the picture confirming their union, Stefania simply wrote: 'Mr and Mrs Evans01.06.2024.'

The couple's wedding came just weeks after they celebrated their ninth anniversary together in May, with Stefania paying tribute to Cadel on Instagram at the time.

They jetted off toGabriel Island inMauritius for a sun-soaked getaway and shared snaps from the trip to Instagram earlier this month, but kept quiet about their union.

Tour de France winner Cadel found love with Stefania in late 2015, after he called off his 10-year marriage to his ex-wife Chiara Passerini.

Earlier in 2015, the sportsman had confirmed that he and Chiara had split up but said they remained on good terms.

He told how they wenttheir separate ways 'some time ago' due to his demanding career, which reportedly put a strain on their relationship.

'We remain good friends and in regular contact. As parents, and in the interest of our family we ask that people respect our privacy,' he told the publication at the time.

The exes share a son Robel, 12, who they adopted from Ethiopia in 2012 when he was six months old after struggling to conceive.

Cadel and Stefania usually divide their time between Switzerland and Barwon Heads but are said to be eyeing up a permanent return Down Under.

Cadel retired from cycling back in February 2015after completing a race named in his honour and said it freed up his time to 'enjoy life more'.

'Retirement is great....I have time to appreciate things more and enjoy life more,' he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Cadel was the first Australian and the third non-European to have won the Tour de France in 2011 in what is still one of Australia's greatest sporting achievements.

At the age of 34, he was also the oldest winner of the tour in 88 years, afterHenri Pelissier finished on top in 1923.

He started his career as a cross country cyclist, finishing ninth in anAtlanta mountain bike race in 1996 before going on to compete at theSydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Cadel then took to road racing and won the Tours of Australia in 2001 and 2004, as well as the 2006Romandie.

He went on to also compete at two more Olympics - Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012 - and is regarded as one of Australia's greatest ever athletes.
