Every upcoming DC movie release in order (2024)

For DC Studios, the future is about to change forever.

We’re within a year of the launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted cinematic DC Universe. Before Gunn's Superman starring David Corenswet flies onto silver screens next summer, however, a multitude of other DC feature projects are in the process of being released either in theaters or on streaming and DVDs. Upcoming features include one-shot animated movies and documentaries, as well as standalone live-action movies that fall into the category of "Elseworlds," which are projects that fall outside of the main DCU — Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, for example, is unlikely to appear alongside Corenswet's Superman.

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' beloved graphic novel Watchmen comes to life (again) with a new coat of paint. Much like its source material, the film retells the story of a group of vigilante superheroes living in the Cold War–era called "The Watchmen." After one of their own is mysteriously murdered, a masked detective namedRorschach (Titus Welliver) investigates and finds out that they're all connected to a deadly conspiracy. Told with a visually striking cel-shaded 3D art style, this animated iteration intends to faithfully pack everything from the source material that evenZack Snyder's 2009 live-action adaptation left out. With a story as adored as Watchmen, the only way to do it justice is to split it in half. (Trailer)

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story - September 21, 2024

The movingSundance fan-favorite documentary Super/Man reveals the remarkable life of Christopher Reeve, the pioneering Superman actor. Directors Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui chronicle Reeve's life story, revealing how he went from being an unknown actor to playing the "Man of Steel" in 1978, paving the way for many more star-led superhero movies. After a tragic horse riding accident in 1995, which left the actor quadriplegic, he redirected his efforts toward becoming an advocate for fellow disabled people.Through never-before-seen archival footage, the doc illustrates that throughout Reeve's life, he was a timeless hero and didn't need to wear the red-and-blue suit to prove it. After Superman has flown, his Kryptonian cousin Kara Zor-El (Milly Alco*ck) follows suit with her own feature film,being helmed byCruellafilmmakerCraig Gillespie with the script penned by actress Ana Nogueira. While plot details of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorroware hidden away in the Phantom Zone for now, DC Studios head James Gunn pointed out that this Kara-centric tale will be darker than his Superman. The movie will show her background and upbringing in contrast to Clark's where she grew up on a rock of her fallen planet Krypton before arriving on Earth as a teen.

Or will be back in a few years.After all, director Matt Reeves needs to cook with his Caped Crusader.The Batman: Part II sees thebroodingNirvana-loving Bruce Wayne (Pattinson) returning to protect Gotham in a new tale. Although there is no information about the plot details or casting for this follow-up to the 2022 hit The Batman, it is confirmed that this installment is part of a larger trilogy. The upcoming highly anticipated miniseries, The Penguin, is being called "a Scarface story”and will bridge the two films, Reeves told EW.
